Notes: ...theme? It made sense...in my head. I guess.
Seifer wiped the blood from his chin and sat down on a rock. He peeled his shirt away from his skin.
Zell bounced a few feet away. "You're way out of shape. I shouldn't have landed that last punch."
Seifer smeared red across the stone beside him. "You want praise for a cheap shot?" He slapped at the bugs settling on his arms.
Zell laughed. "Not my fault if you spent three months off routine." He gave Seifer a critical look. "Did I hurt you bad? Need me to kiss it better?" The grin that followed was wicked. Seifer took it as an challenge.
Zell didn't expect it, and Seifer caught him at the hips and slammed him down. It was easy work to pin his wrists to the patchy moss above his head.
"You fucker!" Zell's eyes were full of fire.
"Stop using coward moves. I'm going to catch up eventually and you won't have it so easy."
Seifer knew Zell didn't give up, so he wasn't surprised when he was flipped to the side. His back skidded along rocks and he hissed. It wasn't sparring anymore as they grappled for a hold on sweat-soaked clothes and skin.
They rolled three times before Seifer gave up, too tired and hot and sick of rolling across rock. He went limp and Zell grinned above him.
"I win, baby! Yeah!" Zell's shout echoed as he flopped back. His arm pressed against Seifer's, sticky-close. Seifer was confused when Zell tensed and said, voice quiet, "I always wanted to be as good as you."
Seifer looked at a bright yellow flower, blooming just out of reach. Story of his life, these days. Seifer turned his head to meet Zell's eyes. "You were, moron."
The pleased surprise, he thought, was worth the loss.
