FFVIII; Rinoa

Title: On Redeeming Qualities
Fandom: FFVIII
Theme: "Not with a bang, but a whimper"
Characters/Pairings: Rinoa (lolz, mini-character study)
Rating: G
Words: 247

When she's done explaining, he's looking at her like she's crazy, and from the expressions on their faces, she can tell that the other two are thinking the same thing.

What the hell are these amateurs doing?

But that's not what shakes her, badly enough so that she excuses herself and tells them she's going to take another nap. It's not the fact that they think she's an idiot, but the fact that they're resigned to it, to taking her orders even if they lead to death without a single complaint. They're her age, her peers, kids that should be listening to music and going to high school and angsting over relationships, but instead, they're willing to die on someone else's command.

And they see nothing wrong with that.

It's CREEPY.

And it's just so frustrating, she thinks: stuck up SeeD and stuck up adults and everyone that thinks they know better just going quietly. There's just so much wrong with the world--and it could change if people started actually caring instead of looking her way like the thought of one helpless-little-girl taking on the world is supposed to be some kind of joke. It's not a joke! It's not. At least she's doing something! Don't they see that?

Stupid SeeD. Stupid Squall. Stupid!

...

Why was it always the annoying ones that had to be so cute...?

Oh, I love this, it's just so... so Rinoa. It flows so beautifully; you can just imagine the thoughts going through her head in exactly the way you described.

The only thing is that the italics gets a bit annoying because it always makes me overdo the stresses on the words in my head and I'd rather read the natural emphasis myself.

Yeah this totaly ties into my earlier rant about she's...well the closest to a real life sort of a character in FFVIII. She's just a girl who likes boys and music and dancing and oh-by-the-way, the world sucks and she wants to make it better.

XD She doesn't want to fucking DIE or fight a WAR. She just wants to save a dinky town that's the under dog.

Oh Rinoa.

Just... well, this is a good mini character study. The use of "It's CREEPY." in particular struck me.

Excellent. I love this, especially her description of SeeDs as tools. I highly encourage you to prod some more into the characters of FFVIII. And by encourage, I mean beg. ;)

Haha, this is so great! All the neat scattered little bits and pieces of character brought together into a perfect whole in just a few words. Awesome.

This is wonderful, because, while pieces that take Rinoa really seriously and portray her very strongly are good once in a while - she's not really a serious girl. She has her serious moments, of course, and she does believe in her cause. She has a strong will, but she's not like Quistis or Squall - and this piece portrays her very well in the early stages of the game. She's somewhat spoilt and immature. But you can see a little spark of strength and determination.

Really, really good. =) Congratulations - I don't like Rinoa very much, so not very many people write her in ways that I like.
