Seifer feels the crack of Zell's fist against his jaw and tumbles into the frothing waves. He rises as fast as he can, soaked by the ocean and the storm. He shouldn't have expected Zell would be any different.
"God, you fucker!" Zell says, and he's helping Seifer up, tugging him out of the water, fisting his hands in cloth that drags with wet.
Thunder rolls overhead.
Seifer wonders at the reversal: Zell shoving him down and picking him up. He expects to be shoved down again like he’d done to Zell so long ago, onto broken shells and unforgiving surf. He braces for it.
It never comes.
Instead Zell tugs him down for a kiss that takes Seifer by surprise. He tastes blood and salt before he’s pushed away.
Zell glares up at him through wet hair. The anger in his eyes eclipses the ocean, and Seifer can see himself in them, worn down and weary. "I hate you sometimes," Zell says.
Seifer's jaw aches—but it doesn't keep him from talking back. "Because you sexually assault everyone you hate. I don't care what you think of me." Except there's no cut to the words. He's too wet and tired to care.
Zell shakes him. "This isn’t you! When do you ever spend time moping?"
"It's not moping."
"Stop lying." Zell's voice is harsh. "Please, just stop."
He starts to speak, but warm palms slide under his jacket. When Zell puts his mouth back on his, it's a dare and a risk, a demand that Seifer stop looking back. His hands are light, fingers skimming under fabric, waiting for Seifer's decision.
And where Seifer thought it would be hard, it's so easy to press forward, kiss Zell back, and make his choice.

Every day I am convinced a little more that you should really be writing indie films about hot unconventional (but no less meaningless) romances.
This is choppy and glimmery and salty. I agree with the setting! It's constructed so very, very well with the dialogue working so well with narration. There's no cut to the words. Yow.
And the hand under the jacket. You write boys like boys and I love ya for it.

I actually write a lot of stuff with dialogue first, then fill in the blanks. I'm not sure I'd ever be able to publish dialogue-only fic, since short, snappy dialogue with a joke or surprise works best and I suck at being funny. XD

This makes me smile for some reason. I'll admit to reading just about anything that involves Seifer and Zell, especially together (as in, TOGETHER), but I love how you manage to represent that very unique deepness to the universe's most amazing love/hate relationship. And in such a small amount of space! Somehow, you make angst cute.Marvelous, as always.

Well, it has a tentative happy ending, so I'm glad it makes you smile. Anything else might be a sign of my happy ending going amiss somehow. >.>I think I might be the only one who's starting to wonder if it really is a love/hate relationship. It feels lonely here on my island, but I'm weird about this pairing as it is. and by weird I mean set in my ways to a damaging degree

NAY! This gave me butterflies! It is so very awesomely written, and I love the whole tug of war-type scenario.

It's pretty much my goal to write nothing but slashy Seifer/Zell for every FFVIII theme in the future. IT'S TOTALLY COOL, RIGHT? I went back and read this piece, and man, ignore my author note because Della really helped me made this piece stand out.
So she's still a) HAWT and b) editorially awesome. We're doomed. D:

And that Seifer still gets up as fast as he can because he's still Seifer, despite everything.

Ahem.
You KNOW if I gave more context, it'd result in 10,000 words of...well. Wordiness. I'm predictable in ways that are painful and telling!
I'm so glad you liked this, though. Especially the part, where Zell you know, doesn't do what Seifer did to him, because that's a BIG DEAL to me and I love it hard. Thank you so much. ♥ ♥

It has the atmosphere and the anger and this is totally the kind of making out I am A-OK with. A-OK.
I just -- I really love the contrast between everything they say and then what they're doing. Saying "I hate you sometimes" after the kiss, tasting the blood. Zell shaking Seifer and yelling because he actually cares, but never actually saying it... I love it.
Also, Seifer feels the crack of Zell's fist against his jaw is a really awesome line and description. It fits so well with the mood and the storm and everything.

I have different mindsets for both Seifer and Zell depending on the context! This is one I don't feel very confident with—mostly because it's action heavy and I have to work at it, um, a lot! But I'm glad it turned out okay and you liked it! ♥
